 Richmond floors

After looking at plenty of Richmond homes for sale, you've found the one you love. Now it's time to update, redecorate, and remodel it to make it your own. One great way to give your new home a fresh look is to install new flooring. If you want to make new flooring your project this August, here are a few options to consider.

  • Wood
Quality hardwood flooring can be expensive to install, but it's worth the cost. With proper care and maintenance, a wood floor can last anywhere from 30 years to a century. It's durable, and it goes with any decor. Wood also improves indoor air quality, since it doesn't accumulate dust, mold bacteria, animal dander and other contaminants - making it a great option for people with allergies! Finally, wood flooring is easy to clean and easy to maintain. Regular sweeping and vacuuming and refinishing every 8 to 12 years, will keep it looking like new for practically as long as you own your home.
  • Vinyl or Laminate
Vinyl and laminate are similar options, with the main difference being that vinyl is made of entirely synthetic materials, while laminate includes a layer of wood fiberboard. Both are made up of layers, fused together with pressure and heat, to make flooring panels that are durable, inexpensive, and can be printed with virtually any pattern or image you want. You can have vinyl or laminate flooring that looks exactly like wood, stone or marble, for a fraction of the price. Both are also durable, scratch resistant, easy to maintain and can last anywhere from 10 to 25 years.
  • Carpet
If you want something cozy, carpet is the way to go. It's soft and comfortable to walk on, not to mention providing insulation, and great for first putting your feet on the floor on cold mornings. It provides noise reduction too, absorbing the sound not just of footsteps, but of your television, computer or speaker system, so whatever you're watching or listening to doesn't carry to the next room. There are a number of style options to choose from. High pile carpet has longer fibers, which are softer, warmer, and more elegant. Low pile has shorter fibers, which is less expensive and much easier to clean and maintain. And you can get carpet in practically any color, style or pattern you like, to go with any decor.
  • Recycled
If you want something more environmentally friendly, consider flooring made of recycled materials. Reclaimed wood flooring takes lumber from old buildings and other structures and re-purposes it into flooring planks, rather than cutting down new trees. You can also get recycled carpet. Many carpets are now made from recycled materials, everything from wool to nylon to old plastic soda bottles. Recycled carpets tend to be fairly durable and can last a long time, while reducing your carbon footprint and often saving you money as well.
