Richmond Earth Day

Is there any place better to celebrate the beauty of nature than Richmond? On April 22, join our real estate agents in observing Earth Day by spending time outdoors participating in one of these wonderful events or activities.

  • Lakeside Earth Day Celebration - Lakeside Farmer's Market, 6110 Lakeside Ave., Henrico, VA 23228
Get a head start on the festivities right down the street from Henrico homes for sale at the Lakeside Earth Day Celebration. Twisted Carrot Farm spearheads this collaborative market featuring more than 30 local vendors offering an assortment of handcrafted foods and gift items. Create your own tribute to the holiday during an Earth Day-themed craft workshop. The celebration is scheduled for Sunday, April 21 from 11 a.m. - 3 p.m. and admission is free.

  • Shakespeare's Garden Tour - Agecroft Hall & Gardens, 4305 Sulgrave Rd., Richmond, VA 23221
The month of April is also noteworthy for the birthday of William Shakespeare. In recognition of both events, Agecroft Hall is conducting Shakespeare's Garden Tour. The "language of flowers" is a common element in Shakespeare's writings, and related quotes from his plays are posted by the corresponding flowers in the Tudor-style garden. Extend your stay with a separate garden admission that includes the Woodland Walk along with other stunning gardens on the grounds. The tour takes place from 10:30 a.m. - 11:15 a.m. on Sunday, April 21, and tickets are $10. Admission to the gardens, which open at noon, is $4-$6.

  • Virginia Capital Trail - 2803 Dock St., Richmond, VA 23223
Spanning the state's past and present capitals of Jamestown and Richmond, the 52-mile Virginia Capital Trail is a must for RVA residents and visitors. The pet-friendly trail roughly parallels the Virginia Scenic Byway of Route 5, passing through four counties. In addition to beautiful expanses of countryside, the path provides access to a number of stunning parks along the way. Stop at attractions such as Richmond National Battlefield Park, Virginia State Capitol, and the Valentine Museum that turn a spotlight on 400 years of history. Pack a picnic lunch or enjoy a meal at one of the 50+ restaurants just off the trail.

  • Riverfront Canal Walk - 139 Virginia St., Richmond, VA 23219
You'll be amazed at how much history and activity are packed into the 1.25-mile length of the Riverfront Canal Walk. Richmond was once a thriving center of canal navigation that allowed a wide range of goods to be transported to and from the city. In the late 20th century, the canals were reconstructed and the pet-friendly Riverfront Canal Walk was opened to honor this legacy. Twenty-two bronze medallions denote historic sites and events throughout Richmond's history. A series of statues and public art also enhance the appeal of the Walk. Explore on foot or on a bike, or head out on the water for a narrated canal cruise.

  • Pony Pasture - 7200 Riverside Dr., Richmond, VA 23219
Rafting or paddling over rapids in the heart of the city? Yes, that's only one of the outdoor activities you can partake in at Pony Pasture. Before 1970, this area of James River Park was used as a place for horses to graze, which is how it gained its name. Today, this popular spot is used for swimming, paddling, tubing, snorkeling, and fishing. Hours are sunrise to sunset daily.
