  1. Experience the Winter Beauty of Maymont – 1000 Westover Rd., Richmond, VA 23220
    A 100-acre park and estate with history around every corner, Maymont is a popular place to visit during the warm-weather months when the flowers are in bloom. Winter provides an opportunity to see this beloved local landmark from a whole new perspective, with quiet, serene scenery that may even be draped with a beautiful coating of snow if you visit on the right day. Maymont is open every day from 10:00 AM – 5:00 PM, while the on-site Robins Nature Center and Historic Garden Tours are available on the weekends.

  2. Discover Richmond National Battlefield Park – 470 Tredegar St., Richmond, VA 23219
    If you're a history buff and haven't visited yet, winter is a great time to discover Richmond National Battlefield Park. The park covers more than 80 miles and 13 key historic sites, which you can explore with a mix of driving, walking, and hiking. The address above is for the Civil War Visitor Center at Tredegar Iron Works in Richmond, and there are three more visitor centers/museums along the route. These include the Chimborazo Medical Museum (Richmond), Cold Harbor Battlefield Visitor Center (Mechanicsville), and the Fort Harrison Visitor Center (Henrico).

  3. Athletic Fun at Sports Center of Richmond – 1385 Overbrook Rd., Richmond, VA 23220
    No matter the weather, the Sports Center of Richmond offers athletic experiences and family-friendly fun for all ages. On warmer winter days, enjoy some time on the large outdoor fields, with youth and adult leagues available. If the weather isn't cooperating, Sports Center of Richmond also offers more than 50,000 square feet of indoor sports facilities, fully climate controlled. With dual indoor/outdoor facilities, this is an ideal place for sports leagues, healthy activities, and kid's events throughout the winter.

  4. Trails and Sledding at Forest Hill Park – 4021 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, VA 23225
    If you're searching for the perfect place for a winter nature walk/hike, don't miss the chance to visit the wonderful Forest Hill Park. The extensive walking trails here cover a variety of ecosystems, with both paved trails and unpaved paths winding throughout the park. Discover local wildlife, take in beautiful natural scenery, and stop for some great photo ops. For the kids, this park also features a playground, as well as some hills that are perfect for sledding whenever there's snow on the ground.

  5. Diverse Activities at Bryan Park – 4308 Hermitage Rd., Richmond, VA 23227
    Perhaps Richmond's most popular park, Bryan Park offers plenty to enjoy during the winter. Bundle up for a round of disc golf on the challenging course here, watch the kids play on the playground, or simply enjoy a stroll along the extensive trails. The ponds here are popular destinations for fishing, and you'll find additional nature-based activities here including birding walking tours.
