Visual Arts Center of Richmond

In 2022, Thrillist included Richmond on their list of "Great American Cities for Creatives." One of the reasons is the Visual Arts Center, where the declared mission is, "Art for everyone. Creativity for life." Learn more about art and the world around us at these upcoming exhibits and events taking place just minutes from Richmond homes for sale.

  • Scavenger Deities
In a world where conservation and eco-awareness has become increasingly important, Scavenger Deities is a particularly timely collection. Installation artist Rachel Schmidt, based in Washington, DC, used museum waste and other discarded items as her raw materials. Inspired by traumas triggered by the pandemic, Schmidt created works based on the themes of loss, healing, and the promise of the future. Animals take center stage as the main subjects, with their natural abilities serving as a conduit for healing. Scavenger Deities runs through Sunday, October 22.

Media used in the exhibit include photography, painting, textiles, and sculpture. The Visual Arts Center will be the debut location for the exhibition, which runs from November 10, 2023 through January 7, 2024. There will be an opening reception from 5:30 p.m. - 7:30 p.m. on Friday, November 10, followed by a live performance from some of the artists at 1 p.m. the next day.
