Minor League Baseball

Looking for hometown sports excitement? Our real estate agents can help you find it!

Richmond homes for sale are great for Minor League Baseball fans. The RVA is well known for its community of passionate sports fans. In the Minor Leagues, Richmond's Flying Squirrels consistently attracts some of the biggest crowds.

As part of the Eastern League, the Flying Squirrels hold the status of the Double-A affiliate for the San Francisco Giants. They play at The Diamond on Arthur Ashe Boulevard, with a total seating capacity of 12,134. In past seasons, The Diamond has served as host to a range of play-offs and tournaments.

Tickets for the 2023 season have been on sale since March 4 and can be purchased online. In addition to season passes, you can also choose to buy tickets for individual games. From April through to the middle of September, the Flying Squirrels will play in nearly 70 games.

What the 2023 Season Has in Store for the Richmond Flying Squirrels

Most games include a fun, family-friendly theme. You can also enjoy a variety of events before and after games and on weekends.

To see all the details, visit the official Richmond Flying Squirrels schedule.

Let's check out some of the highlights for the coming season:

  • Game 1 on Friday, April 7
Game 1 against the Reading Fightin' Phils – the Double-A affiliate of the Philadelphia Phillies – is sure to be a night to remember. Opening Night festivities will feature the first of more than two dozen fireworks shows planned for The Diamond this year.

  • Flying Squirrels Independence Day Celebration, Tuesday, July 4
The Flying Squirrels go all out for the nation's birthday, and what better way to celebrate it than with the national pastime? July 4 doesn't fall on a weekend this year, but you can still keep up all the fun thanks to "In-Your-Face Fireworks" and a thrilling game against the Bowie Baysox.

  • Wine & K-9 Wednesdays
Dogs are admitted for free every Wednesday! Plus, you'll get access to a special dog-friendly seating area to help your canine pal stay comfortable. Glasses of wine are just $5 on Wednesdays starting at 5:30 p.m., while you can upgrade to a wine slushie for just a dollar more.

  • In-Your-Face Fireworks Thursdays and Sundays
Fireworks are one of the best parts of a Flying Squirrels game. Make memories that will last a lifetime with your loved ones as In-Your-Face Fireworks follow each Thursday and Sunday game. You'll get up close and personal with the displays through great vantage points inside the fences.

  • Funnville Friday Happy Hour
Happy hour drink specials are the order of the day during every Friday home game. Drink up with $2 12-ounce domestic beers anywhere you look: All concession stands, beer carts, and The Thirsty Acorn will have them ready for you. For the kids, $2 fountain sodas will be on offer at the Pepsi Fountain.

  • Sunday Pre-Game and Post-Game for Kids
Every Sunday, Pre-Game Catch will be hosted by Nesquik for kids aged 14 and younger. Drop in between 12:45 p.m. and 1:05 p.m. to join in the fun. After Sunday home games, Richmond Family Magazine will sponsor Kids Run the Bases.
