Fine Arts Museum

When clients ask our real estate agents about the best event centers and museums in the area, they always tell them about the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. This stunning museum offers free admission, and it is full of exhibits that will open your mind and leave you in awe. However, if you want to get the most out of your visit to VMFA, we recommend attending one or more of the upcoming events.

  • Intro to Gelli Plate Printing
Scheduled for Saturday, March 11th, between 10 am and 4 pm, Intro to Gelli Plate Printing is a class for anyone looking to learn the art of Gelli plate. Participants will use stencils, stamps, and paints to create their own masterpieces.

Registration for this class is $90 per person. You can register online through the VMFA website. There is a discount for VMFA members. Be sure to bring your own Gelli plate and other supplies.

  • Color and Abstraction in Drawing
Color and Abstraction in Drawing is an exciting class for anyone with basic drawing skills. You'll learn how to use pencil, chalk, and charcoal to create more dynamic appearances of color and shape in your art.

This class begins at 10:00 am and should last until approximately 4 pm on Saturday, March 11th. Tickets are $90 for non-members and $75 for members, and you can register on the VFMA website

  • VFMA Highlights Walk-in Tour
If you'd like to see the museum's permanent exhibits and learn more about them, we recommend the VFMA Highlights Walk-In Tour. This tour lasts for 50 minutes and is led by a knowledgeable docent. There's no need to pre-register. Check out a list of upcoming tour dates and times on the VFMA website.

Plan on arriving at least 5 minutes before your tour starts. Guests will meet in the Cochrane Atrium near the Visitor's Center.

  • Journey To Drawing
If you have a child who is interested in drawing, this is a great class for them. It's scheduled for March 25th between 1 pm and 4 pm. Led by instructor Kerry Mills, the class will teach children ages 5 - 8 the basics of drawing from observation.

Journey to Drawing costs $30 for non-members or $25 for members. You can sign up on the VFMA website. Make sure you plan to spend a few minutes touring the museum with your child either before or after the class.

  • Drawing Trees
Trees can be difficult to draw, but there are some tried-and-true methods for drawing them beautifully. This class on drawing trees will teach you some of those strategies. It's taught by instructor Dawn Flores. There are two sessions on April 1st and 2nd, both from 10 am - 4 pm.

The fee for Drawing Trees is $145 for non-members and $130 for members. Wear comfortable shoes; you'll be walking the VFMA grounds to see various trees.

  • Cocktails With a Curator: Alexis Assam
Have you ever wondered what goes into curating an art collection? Attend this event, and you'll learn. Cocktails With a Curator is led by Alexis Assam, a global curator of contemporary art. She'll speak about her work with the upcoming exhibition, Whitfield Lovell: Passages, which will open in June.

This event is scheduled for 6 pm on March 22nd. All are welcome – members and non-members alike.

Whether you attend one of these events or all of them, we hope you have a lovely and artistic time. If you're still looking for Richmond homes for sale, feel free to contact us. We'd be happy to guide you through the buying process.
