RVA Tacos

Have you hitched a ride on the birria taco bandwagon? These meat and cheese-stuffed fried tortillas, dipped in a bath of beef consommé, are an explosion of flavors and textures. Our real estate agents share the best places around Richmond to get this new taste sensation.

  • Taqueria Panchito - 6531 Midlothian Tpke., Richmond, VA 23225
When customers talk about their experience at Taqueria Panchito, the word that comes up time and again is "authentic." With birria tacos on the menu Friday through Sunday and $1 tacos on Wednesday, it's a week-long treat for Mexican food lovers. The al pastor tacos, featuring grilled and marinated pork, are a particular favorite. Visit the sit-down restaurant and ask about the surprise menu options, or check the Facebook page for current location of their food truck. Taqueria Panchito is open seven days a week from 10 a.m. - 9 p.m.

  • The Veil Brewing - 4910 Forest Hill Ave., Richmond, VA 23225
Birria tacos make a perfect partner for the craft beers at The Veil Brewing, a stylish taproom just minutes from Richmond homes for sale. Y Tu Mamá is serving up beef and chicken birria tacos in orders of two and three, along with regular tacos, burritos, and quesadillas. Order online for convenient carryout. Hours are 4 p.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday, noon - 9 p.m. Saturday, and noon - 6 p.m. Sunday.

  • Big Chile Mexican Tacos - 9515 W. Broad St., Richmond, VA 23294
Tacos are one of the original street foods, so it's only fitting they're served out of the Big Chile Mexican Tacos truck. Birria taco combos are a weekend highlight, while the rest of the menu is available all week. According to satisfied customers, two tortillas are definitely needed to handle the generous amounts of meat in Big Chile's tacos. There are picnic tables nearby if you want to enjoy your meal with a side of fresh air and sunshine. Call ahead, and your order will be ready when you arrive. Hours are 11:30 a.m. - 9 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and 11:30 a.m. - 7 p.m. Sunday.

  • Taqueria Y Antojitos El Chido - 6715 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, VA 23228
When you get those late-night taco cravings, Taqueria Y Antojitos El Chido is there to help! Birria tacos are a recent addition to an already extensive lineup, including brisket, steak, pork, beef cheeks, and chorizo. Pair your taco with a side of elote, an addictive treat of corn coated with mayonnaise, cotija cheese, and chili powder. If you have a sweet tooth, don't leave without an order of churros, which are just as popular as the savory items. The taqueria is open noon - 11:30 p.m. daily.

  • Shelly's Food Comida Latina - 7304 Staples Mill Rd., Richmond, VA 23228
When you visit Shelly's Food Comida Latina you're in for an authentic experience with authentic flavors. In addition to birria tacos, Shelly's is known for pupusas, a stuffed cornmeal flatbread that's the national dish of El Salvador. Tacos are $1 on Tuesdays, while pupusas go for the same price on Wednesdays, so you can eat hearty without breaking the bank. Shelly's is open seven days a week from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m.
